Green Light Laser Procedures

Green light laser procedures are not performed unless the proper diagnosis has been confirmed by doctor Fernando Bianco. Since maladies such as urinary retention, frequent urination, weak stream, and similar male urinary problems can occur from many physiological reasons, our Miami urological center will confirm that your urinary problems come from prostate enlargement.
Green light laser minimally invasive surgery is meant to remove prostate tissue that blocks urine from passing out of the bladder but this may not be the total solution, if you have other disorders besides your prostate enlargement. Your problems may also be coming from a neurogenic bladder, spinal stenosis, kidney stones, bladder stones, floppy bladder, urinary tract infection and other disorders.
Normally green light laser is an outpatient procedure which allows our patients to come in and leave that same day. Occasionally when there may be other medical concerns at stake our patients may stay overnight. Green light laser is covered by Medicare and most insurance companies. The Columbia University Division of Urology at Mount Sinai Medical Center has built an extension of the Columbia University Department of Urology in New York City. Our team of urologists includes Dr Mitchell Benson Urologist-in-Chief at Columbia University Medical Center, the Chief of Robotic Surgery for the Columbia University Division of Urology at Mt Sinai Medical Center Dr Fernando Bianco, Miami urologist Dr. Alan M. Nieder who is an Assistant Professor of Urology at Columbia University’s Division of Urology at Mount Sinai Medical Center and Dr Aaron Katz who heads the Columbia University Department of Urology’s cryosurgery team and is also the head of Columbia’s Center for Holistic Urology.
Green light laser surgery is not preformed as a treatment for prostate cancer or kidney stone removal. Prostate removal for prostate cancer surgery is called radical prostatectomy which is the removal of the entire prostate and the tissue surrounding the prostate. Symptoms of kidney stones which may be similar to prostate enlargement symptoms are usually taken care of with kidney surgery. Holmium laser which breaks up the kidney stones into tiny pieces and kidney surgery made through a small hole in the back to pull the kidney stone directly out of the kidney are how our team of the world’s best urologists remove the kidney stone. They may also use lithotripsy or extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break the kidney stones up so they may pass out of the urinary tract.
